Use this cast-on if you want to be able to access the provisionally cast-on edge as “live” stitches to be worked later. With this method, you use a piece of waste yarn that is eventually removed in order to have access to your “live” stitches. It is like a temporary cast-on that holds stitches so that they are available to knit later. For example, you might use this method if you want to add a border or hem to your work, or if you have specific color-work you’d like to add to your piece.
